Infrastructure

Infrastructure Roadways reach around the city the way my arms reach around you no area uncharted a driving force causes thoughts to travel within the highway of my mind my love flows as water through a main you tap into it at will hot to bathe in, or cool and refreshing you drink of me, quenching thirsts the energy I have for life a current you take hold of you become enlightened by the power I have over you and your smile becomes brighter I am the strong tower you take refuge in when life’s storms grow black on the horizon you run within my walls If one day, the earthquake of Alzheimer’s comes crashing my roadways collapse, the water pipes burst and the lines come tumbling down what will you see? rubble and dust blowing in the wind And what shall I see what will I be Will my thoughts still think of you will the waters pour out into the sand of time as when the main breaks, and the ground around washes away will fires burn in dry whispers words you don’t understand spoken by lips that once charged you ignited you in passion, now you trace the lines with your fingers my body, crumpled sitting timelessly in a chair I will see you smile hear you call my name but like Atlantis I will remain unfound, yet still exist…….somewhere May 10, 2001 © Copyright 2001 1st Poet Inc.
