The Night
By Abilene
Eyes brown and stern, I never saw a glimpse of your smile Wandering down the rabbit trail, I was not caught Just thought I'd stay for awhile and browse those hills And for that my thoughts be mauled, and so the night Watching you tell a girl her eyes are pretty Dying a thousand times, my thought of heaven What didn't she do, the sinful dame Spreading her sadness around in her aura And thinking of losing the love that held her A night of distance, slow and subtle Mannerisms unfamiliar and painfully sharp Having to refrain from engraving my reign Whispering to you a low hateful hum And only his heavy breathing is heard Oh, what a glorious night to be hung! Heavy head, heavy as dead Don't die trying, his silent stare A will that's stubborn- so be it, the night I seemed to have forgotten that you were my love It was because the night had made you stone Anywhere I would have flown to calm my rage If only I had your wings to take me.
