I Was Once Given a Photograph
By Adam Gaucher
I was once given a photograph of a basement that I was sitting in. I happened to be in the exact place where the image had been captured many weeks prior. I decided I should put this picture somewhere as to not lose it though out the night. I thought about this, looked around for a place, and noticed my coat lying in the chair across the room from me. It seemed like the prime space to rest the item, so I proceeded to chart my course of action: Walk forward dodging my crazed friend to the left, while acknowledging the existence of two other friends on my right with a healthy nod of the head, arriving finally at the jacket placing the image snugly into the right hand pocket along side my spare pack of Turkish Gold. It all seemed simple enough, so I readied myself and was just about to charge when I looked up and noticed that my coat had disappeared. I turned to my friends who had, by then, shifted position, and noticed how one of them had been lost as well. My brain stumbled briefly, so I could only smile at the jacket frozen in my hand. I placed the photograph securely onto the arm of the couch, and I sat comfortably back into the warm touch of reality. Written March 18th, 2002 © on Apr 09 2002 10:31 AM PST 17 • 0 • 10
