Daddy… Child born of poverty A man born of character Scarred and bruised from war A spirit broken in ruthless battle Wounds he carried with him Yet a boundless compassion Hardworking, a true heart Wisdom of many seasons Mommy… A child born of poverty A woman of frail emotions Losing a father, an untimely death Her mother grief stricken Unable to provide Children put in foster homes Somehow not able to forgive Working in the fields A harsh living School was a brief respite Walking through drifting snow No shoes on her feet Uniting… Two souls searching A chance meeting Wooing each other’s hearts Becoming one, a summer day in June Taking her hand and softly rest Like the voices of an orchestra Joined and soaring together Each a unique and brilliant point A voice greater than all its parts A new beginning Blending… A boy and a girl Both from her previous marriage He became a father to both Loving and nurturing Guiding their way Spring of ‘57 a daughter was born Of their flesh and blood A home, assembled with love Daddy’s death… Heart weakening, still he prevailed Never letting illness stand in his way Silent in his suffering A stellar of strength Bound and determined to hold on Grasping life with his bare hands Until his name was called Angels carrying him on their wings In winter’s sorrow Grief… She grieved, never the same again Cynical look at the world Consumed by her own thoughts Angry for love’s loss Dredging through life, empty Longing for peace within A part of her had died Finding a moment of comfort In the bonds of her family Blessing in disguise… A blessing in disguise Caring for my mother Not knowing it was her final months Overturning the circle of life She became the child I became the nurturer Ten months of bonding Well enough to go home A cherished memory A loving embrace of goodbye Many pages turned Death… Afraid to give in to weakness Reluctant out of fear Leaving a body broken Hospital, surgery, life support Her hands icy cold, never to awaken Treading into the sea of slumber’s dream Miracle in the stars… Filled with grief, I fell to the ground My own child at my side Trying to ease my pain She looked to the sky To see a wondrous sight One with no logical explanation Two of the brightest stars ever seen Overlapping in a timeless space Standing against the depthless void Beyond my plaintive grasp Parents gone from this earth Rejoined beyond the azure sky A sign from heaven… I dried my tearsThis was wrote for Survivor Challenge 16.
