the new year man
By benafim
The New Year Man Naked and shivering he awoke on the strand of life, all while the ocean of forever lapped at his feet. Kind people gave him a woolly overcoat and told him that he was a king for a year and they hoped that his reign will be of perpetual peace. Warm in his coat it had once belonged to a senile dictator- it still had pockets full of boiled sweets he used to hand to children on his walk about- his first act was to abolish free speech, that all those who didn’t agree with the western way of life should hence forward be regarded as terrorists and what is dizzily called democracy, where winners take all and losers live in penury, will be the only legal force, that criticism is sedition and disbelievers of our great democratic system, shall be sent to an island and shot one by one until all oppositions have ceased and gloomy peace reigns from pole to pole till ice caps melt like vanilla ice on a summer’s day.
