Have you ever awakened wondering what it's like to be your lungs, pushing air in and out so faithfully in the night while you sleep? What if those dark prodding caverns conspired? One slowing its rhythm slightly, cajoling the other, as if they were dancing. A small misshuffle of the feet and she's with him and as they rotate slower and slower they gravitate toward each other. Here is where I gasp. My pupils, large as dimes, blow out of my hot face, trying to suck in air and I contort like a wild accordion, seen but not heard. Meanwhile, my lungs stop moving altogether, look deep into each other's eyes, and hearing an echo of thrashing, tremble once, then curl together like naked lovers and kiss.
