The Old Tree Sprite
This tree stands alone in the middle of the woods The Sprite comes alone hoping not to intrude The tree stands near dead, years frozen in place from just a look or a glance, there's not hardly a trace of the life that was once strong within there Did anyone ever notice, did anyone even care He sees this one tree, the first he had planted alone there the tree stands beat, battered, caught in a still silent moan He comes back to the start, the cycles complete Where his power became awake, he now goes to sleep He's the oldest in his clan, taught all that he knows Now this old man comes back, to die here alone This Sprite and tree have lived through it all Wars, fires, humans, summers, springs, winters, and falls He lays his frail body down near the trees roots wonders where his life has gone and of all his recruits As he lays down he feels the damp and cold earth he recalls all of his days, right back to his birth He can feel his life force draining back into the tree He has lived a full life, has no more reason to flee As the tree comes to life he forgets his own death Feels the raw power with few remaining breaths If the tree could speak aloud it would... only to thank him but it's far to late... the powers been taken The old mans true friend will now live again strong with new creatures to live with, which will each come along The old Sprite loved this tree dearly and passed on in this spot so all could see clearly The beauty of nature in just this one tree let him give his life freely and maybe thats the key inspired by one though and followed thorugh whole is the way we should live to give peace to our souls Written March 12th, 2002 © on Mar 12 2002 04:53 AM PST, Bob 18 • 0 • 13
