Unkept Promises
By Britty
Unkept promises. That's been our story so far I remember how so many times I looked forward to your visits The smile on your face The little squeak in my voice You would pick me up And put me on your shoulders I felt on top of the world You always seemed to visit me at the right time But that was then This is now You changed All of a sudden I was of no significance to you at all Just some monthly bill Remember our annual Chuck E Cheese visit? How could you forget Of course you called me "I'll be there at 3, babygirl. I promise.." Yeah, right. Of course back then, "daddy never lied" So, I sat on the porch In my little pigtails With my packed Barbie nightbag And my new pair of Keds on... I sat there and waited... And waited... and waited. You never came. "But daddy never lies!" I cried. That broken promise has broken my heart for 8 years Sometimes, I still sit on my porch waiting for you to come. Trying to mend the bruise in my heart from your last Unkept promise.I haven't mentioned my dad like that in years... *sigh* tt hurts so much.
