The Forever Song
By butch
The wind blew cold, as I stood watched your window, Stressing over things I probably shouldn't know, Worrying about things that I should turn away from, Giving myself to the demons, I know will come, Sleepless, dreamless, awake as the night grows long, Chasing the swirling images in a desperate forever song, Going over and over the things I should say, could say, won't say, Knowing my resolve will disappear comes the break of day, I look for you as day begins, but only see your shadow, Fear becomes intimate, as the gap between us grows, Finding a thousand reasons for keeping my distance, Realizing, too late, that I can't keep up with the dance, Minutes pile on top of each other, and create an unscalable wall, One moment I want to climb it, the next I want to fall, Questions sound in my mind, in a quavering unsure voice, Knowing that a lifetime can be rolled up into one simple choice, To love someone is to give up your soul and enter the unknown, To take the path they have chosen, and risk being alone, To enter a world unfamilar, and walk into the dark, Knowing you may be left in a landscape bleak and stark, To give and not recieve, to wish and not be fulfilled, To bash against indifference until the innocent heart is stilled, To toss away security and chance the uncharted soil, To end up with nothing, and watch the serpent uncoil, This is my fate.............
