The Haunting
Silently the night deepens, While I am lying in my bed. Sleeping so serenely, As dreams run in my head. Resting with a smile, So perfectly on my face. When suddenly I awaken, To something out of place. The shutters fly open, As the wind blows through. A powerful force that overwhelms, Carries a cold chill too. I feel a shiver up my spine, And it travels through my veins. I sense it everywhere, Just like when it rains. The pictures on the walls, Shake then shatter on the ground. Pieces of broken glass, Lying jagged on all around. But there is one picture, Even though it did fall. It didn't crack or break, Not a little bit at all. I gently walk over, To see if it is true. And indeed it is, A picture of you. I touch your face, Lightly with my fingers. Tears fall from my eyes, And your sweet scent lingers. Sitting tall on my knees, My heart and soul so free. And when I close my eyes, Peace fills every part of me. As I open my eyes, Things aren't how they seem. I am lying in my bed, I guess it was but a dream. But there is your picture, Not in its usual place. It is here in my arms, With my tear stained face. Written November 3rd, 2001 © on Nov 03 2001 01:53 PM PST 0 • 1
