Bar-maids lament
By Cally
They came,Swarming like flies,Craving sweetness,Intoxicating sugar,Singing and dancing,Effervescent in the light,Swirling in smokeAnd laughter,Wings beating,Ever onwards,Then into the nightThey reel and swayCraving, always cravingLeaving chaosIn their wakeThey drudgeLike soldiersTaking their sugarBuilding their nestsElsewhere,Some continue to crave,Spiralling into the dust,Some enmeshed in arms,Crimson rivers runningFaces, arms, white knucklesCraving sweet scarletSickening blood,Most twist and whirlInto the duskAnd sanctuaryThis is the time of the night,This is the life of the rabidRushing, frantically stumblingMost are savedSome are singedA precious few burn off their wings.
