Obscurity

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

The citizens of modern nation states, leave deeds described within statistics vital. Our birth and death and marriage are the dates, remembered in the town clerk's terse recital. If fame beyond these facts we hope to claim, so future men will speak our little story, Then, we, like Jack and Jill of Nursery fame, Must do a thing or two to win our glory. Though born was I, and climbed the hill anon Had children four, and took a dozen lovers, fell, too, and broke my little crown, (and did some things I hope no Jack discovers), My wide tale's tell, though deeper than that Jill will have for teller none but whipporwill.
