A Mile In Another's Shoes
By Carpe Deum
A princess stands among us now They envy her, her beauty Her power, her wealth, her life "To be the daughter of a king," They say "Would be worth all the gold in the world" But she does not think it so Day by day, in cerulean and gold Staring out her turret window At the peasants down below And cursing the fate That sold her to someone else A peasant stands before us now She envies him, his world His strength, his freedom, his pride "To be like that man," She thinks "Would be worth my kingdom and beyond. His work never stops, But he is free to dance And love whom he wishes. While I am a prisoner here A bird in a gilded gage With no hope of being free." Now in the years to come my friend Remember ye this story Of the princess and the peasant who Wished they were someone else Live the best you can with As much as the good Lord gives you For happiness is not what you have But what you give out And what you gain in return For no one can make you perfectly content That part is up to you That's the freedom that you have No matter what the circumstances Written October 20th, 2001 © on Oct 20 2001 05:59 AM PST 0 • 13
