Gypsy Traveler

Walk with me now my friend Within the autumn grove The darkness is deep but I know the way And the lamplight’s shadows will guide us Hark! Do you hear That sound upon the breeze The sound of laughter, the sound of singing I know I am almost home Home, where the elders sing Where the tin whistles play And the drums pound out a tune A tune to get in your blood Strain your eyes. Can’t you see them? These people, my family The crackling firelight throws out its warmth Welcoming us in “These are my friends,” say I “I give you introductions all around.” From wagon to wagon The whole caravan is shown These are my people We’re thrown around like chaff But we have each other And the inborn strength we’re famous for I pick up my fiddle Draw the bow down on the strings Let the warbling note linger as I Hold upon the strand Get up and dance my friend For the night is almost gone Won’t you sing and play with me As we journey through this land?
