One Stormy Night...
By Carpe Deum
Picture... A walled city, guards at every gate A storm is brewing on the horizon The rustling leaves shiver with anticipation Lightning splits the sky Picture... A parapet rising from the inky blackness A palace untouched by wind or rain A curtain billows on the balcony A Princess stirs in her sleep Watch... A young man vaults the city walls Appraises the situation, makes a decision Swings up to the balcony And pushes the curtain aside Listen... The gentle sound of footsteps as he walks across the stone The sigh of a woman as she hears the random noise The rustle of blankets as she sits up, startled The sharp intake of breath to scream Watch... He is at her side in a instant He puts his hand firmly but gently over her mouth She begins to struggle He lowers his lips to her ear Listen... "I'm not here to hurt you," The man says "I'm a thief not a rapist, Let me do what I came for, don't get in my way I'll be gone before you know it" Watch... The princess stops her struggles Her eyes light up with hope The thief sees her resistance is gone And removes his hand from her mouth Listen... "Take me with you," Pleads the woman "Before I'm sold to the highest bidder Even you would be better Than a man I've never met" Listen... The man laughs, "Why should I little woman? That's part of your lot in life." "Yes," She counters, "But I would gladly give up everything, To have the life you lead" Listen... "Alright then," He sees that she's sincere. "Pack lightly and come with me Against my better judgement I'm taking you away" Watch... They stand upon the balcony Both jump down simultaneously They set off running across the lawn And scramble up the wall Picture... The two fly over the desert sand Into the cool, sweet moonlight The darkness envelopes them in velvet The golden sand winks at them as they pass Watch... For weeks they walk, each depending on the other Dodging patrols, raiding villages, the princess as efficient as the man The thief who prided himself on being independent Has a harder time thinking of life without her Picture... An oasis in the desert Life giving water flows in streams Emerald palms wave in the breezes The man is finally home Listen... "We'll be safe here, away from the city And don't worry, I won't turn you in You are a part of me now," Says the thief "And so you will always be" Written November 6th, 2001 © on Nov 06 2001 07:56 AM PST 0 • 10
