No Just two letters that carry A whole heck of a lot of meaning Depending on the tone they're said in If you say it kindly 'no' can be A gentle remonstration A mother telling a child for the first time 'don't do that' Harshly, 'no' can be "I've told you once and I'm not going to tell you again" Jokingly 'no' can be "I really do think your cute but I've just GOT to play hard-to-get" No Our society revolves around 'no' No swimming, no skateboarding, no drugs, no drinking, no running But poor, underappreciated 'no' She doesn't get any attention Until someone says 'yes' When they should have said 'no' And then they blame poor 'no' When it was yes's fault they got in trouble in the first place We don't know no's importance Until we see the fallibility of yes Written March 25th, 2002 © on Mar 25 2002 05:54 AM PST 0 • 10
