you are the eagle always focused lense to brain. you see 180 degrees of brilliant distance, a lover of detail never failing to be aware of the slightest movement difference absence. thought it was perhaps a gift, some beautiful abnormality, a genetic trait passed in cracked blue ice to lay in the heads of our children. you told the story face twisting into fear, body language turning childlike, lashes dripping memories until you were eleven again and shrinking away from the strap biting your back, face forced into the mattress by the daddy monster who said you should have payed closer attention. your clarity was payed for with skin and blood. i couldn't save you then, but today i can start by allowing you to, for once, close your tired eyes.
