'Broken'
By christy
you said..... goodbye with as much warning as if you'd pulled the grenade pin and yelled, "RUN!". it was the shock of being set afire in your sleep, sentenced to death without a trial. but i really don't remember the shape or sound of your reasons, don't remember the voice in the dryness of your eyes, don't know if i was sitting or standing at the time or if you smothered me with your stare. i only recall the explosion of a train breaking and derailing within my fleshy hull, wanting to snuff out the light in my head, give myself to the worms, and the woman-scar that throbbed beneath my fingers, signifying the untimely death of a womb sacrificed to give you the babies who watched sadly as you left, the babies I would have to breathe for when they can't understand goodbye.
