Anatomy of a Poet (Challenge Poem)

Anatomy of a Poet The poet’s mind is sliced and diced Upon the parchment’s weathered page His wisdom oozes from the vice Of vintage brews of mellowed age His heart is slivered  paper thin Each chamber wall exposed to sight And any love that dwells within Is bathed in rainbow’s prism light A poet’s spirit is engraved In golden ink upon the leaf His character in feathered phrase, Between the words, his core belief His face reflects on silent pond The nose in scents of morning mist His voice within a sparrow’s song His feet in footstep’s reminisce His hand writes letters slowly etched That flow from life’s sweet laden quill A poet’s inner eye is etched On petals of a daffodil The eardrum vibrates ocean’s roar  As tides of passion’s power rips Across the  silver sands on shore And on the warmth of wine wet lips A poet’s heart beats to rejoice And sings in timbres of the rhyme Aesthetic grace is spirit’s voice And beauty is his love sublime Written February 16th, 2002 © on Feb 16 2002 11:51 AM PST   0 • 10
