Day of Birth (Challenge Winner)

Day of Birth She wakens me in dark of womb In halo’s corner sings a tune A splendid loving melody Of twinkling crests on rippled sea And patiently I wait my turn No hurried step, no timely yearn No lighted candle do I burn So patiently I wait my turn Then gracefully she cradles me No vision of her face I see Life’s throbbing heartbeat I can hear Of ocean’s rhythms in my ear The hand of God is reaching in To bless my tiny soul within The undertows are pulling me My cradle drifting out to the sea A flash of panic, heart’s unrest Pushing me from comfort’s nest A flair of pain, a smaller space I’m taken from the warm, dark place Then all is cold and all is bright I’m laid upon a bed of light I feel her eyes across the room My tiny face in love consume They place me in her loving arms Wrapped up in warmth and safe from harm A fragrant rose is now my bed A halo lit around her head To her, an angel, I was bound With golden ribbons winding round And now I feel caressing hands Are strengthening the golden bands This is the place where I will rest The petal’s bed, the angel’s breast My day of birth God’s grace bestows The gift of life, a velvet rose Written February 8th, 2002 © on Feb 08 2002 12:37 AM PST   0 • 10
