Hanging On
By Cinara
Hanging On Alligator slowly slides In black and murky bog he hides The creature’s mystery never fades In waters of the Everglades Ever present, ever more This swampland must protect its shore As man encroaches and invades The waters of the Everglades An eco-system hanging on To threads of life that could be gone With graceful step the egret wades In waters of the Everglades Birds and fish and plants have changed Because of what man rearranged Somehow the dikes have far outweighed The treasures of the Everglades Insensitivity surrounds The fragile border land it bounds A debt of grievance must be paid If we destroy the Everglades So look upon this wondrous place With awe and reverence on your face And in your dreams will be portrayed The beauty of the Everglades What wondrous splendors dwell in shades Of green that drape the Everglades Written March 3rd, 2002 © on Mar 03 2002 07:27 AM PST 0 • 10
