Lady of Want

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

Lady of Want she is on the constant brink of standing on the edge of desire sometimes she sits on the moon and smiles down at me asserting her independence like a confident feline sometimes she floats just ahead of me within the whisper of my breath tumbling and twirling like a butterfly but once in a while she allows herself capture she walks, she floats, she smiles, she gloats she’s there, she’s not so elusive inconclusive but she is real, at least she is for me and she is always beautiful she’s quite visible and clear til she walks into the mist and hides but I walk in her shadow always following her in constant persuit and she changes form, and hue and direction but she’s always there at least she is for me she has put me on a pedestal of pride she’s thrown me into the abyss of sorrow she’s taken me to the height of ecstasy they always called me a dreamer and that’s what she is a fantasy a wish something I aspire to something I fight for something I live for she is a dream and I have caught her once or twice and lost her many times but I never gave up she’s still there sitting on top of the moon and just a sudden twist of fate could bring her spiraling down into my hand she walks, she floats she smiles, she gloats she’s there, she’s not but she is very real at least she is for me Written March 11th, 2002 © on Mar 10 2002 09:27 PM PST   0 • 10
