Leni-Lenape Trail - a sonnet
By Cinara
Leni-Lenape Trail - A Sonnet A Persian carpet spread amongst the trees Of red and gold mosaic tapestry, collage of leaves spun by an autumn breeze from sycamore and oak surrounding me I climb the upward pathway to the crest of foothills plush with colors, wet with dews Though trees are bare, my path is finely dressed in Appalacian’s range of autumn hues This trail was etched by footsteps of a tribe in winter white and bronze of autumn tones And as I walk the pathway they inscribed I feel somehow I do not walk alone The brightly painted hillsides mesmerize As I gaze out through someone elses’s eyes Written March 25th, 2002 © on Mar 25 2002 04:51 AM PST 0 • 10
