Mannequins (Challenge Poem)
By Cinara
Challenge Description: Write a poem about a criticism you have about society or something you question society for. What is wrong with society today? What does society put too much emphasis on? How can society be hypocritical? (*Just some things to think about*) Mannequins Have you ever seen poverty, naked and raw Ripped to the bone by the tooth and the claw? Your spirit still dizzy from sights that you saw Did you ever seen mannequins real and alive? At a gala event they so garrishly thrive In sequinned designer masks they survive Have you ever been there in the midst of the stench From misery’s corner unable to wrench The visions before you from memory’s trench? Is your mind filled with all you are seeking to buy? Are the dreams of America passing you by? In safety and comfort your heart wants to cry Have you ever watched bare-footed little ones tread In waste of the desperate, sore and unfed? In the calendar year, a half will be dead Are you mad that you didn’t see Oprah today Do you feel something precious is slipping away When you haven’t achieved Martha’s tip for the day Did you ever meet up with a spirit so pure Who will step up in rags to the heavenly door Degradation the burden, rejection , the sore What do you see as your looking around At the houses surrounded by green velvet ground Is the bliss that you fought for, the truth you have found?
