The Crimson Rose (Challenge Poem)

The Crimson Rose One day a woman, old and frail, held a rose of crimson red She gently handed me the lovely flower and softly said Look very deeply, dear, into the center of the rose And it will tell you stories that no other flower knows I found it strange, but somehow felt compelled by unknown power I folded back the petals and gazed deep into the flower And from the bloom a lovely verse of poetry arose To tell me of the grand and glorious beauty of a rose “A rose of red’s the greatest gift that you shall ever give And the greatest gift that you’ll receive as long as you shall live A rose is splendid and magnificent, it’s fragrance is divine It’s the most beloved flower in the history of mankind A rose is loved by king’s and poets, known around the world It has the power to change a nation, as velvet wings unfurl It’s a dainty bit of splendor, it’s the force of noted worth It’s value is much greater than all the gold on earth” So ended the sweet and captivating poetry of the rose It’s message to the entire world I wanted to disclose I quickly ran to find my daughter, with her little child I placed the rose into her hand, she looked at me and smiled Look very deeply, darling , into the center of the rose And it will tell you stories that no other flower knows It will speak to you in poetry, an unknown verse, and yet It’s words will be a message that you never will forget For you will understand its meaning from the very start A rose, my dear, is the wondrous love within a mother’s heart Look deep into the rose and marvel at its poetry Look deep into your heart, and there a crinson rose you’ll see Remember that a rose is the greatest gift you’ll ever give And the greatest gift that you’ll receive as long as you shall live Written March 2nd, 2002 © on Mar 01 2002 09:36 PM PST   0 • 8
