Trail of Tears
By CloudRaven
I take a long drag off the pipe of peace. I close my eyes and allow the steam to embrace me. I go on my mystical journey. As the visions in front of me become clearer. I walk in the heat, as all around me I feel the pain. The women’s tears litter the path, as they clutch there children tightly. The sun pours down, as the soldiers push us along. I become bitter as the elders fall and are left to find the Great Spirit on there own. I walk on as I lose my respect for myself. My bitter tears fall down along the path to the loss of freedom and self dignity. I open my eyes as the vision blurs and finally disappears. I walked the trail of tears and realize now why my nation is in the ruins I see before me. Written March 11th, 2002 © on Mar 11 2002 10:44 AM PST 0 • 9
