...and when you leave
By coyote
...and when you leave, man...you know, to go home? You know you aren't even halfway there, man, until you hit that doorstep, ring that bell, and someone says, "Hey man, you're home". You know what I mean, man? I mean until there is someone there that you give a shit about...that gives a shit about you, then you ain't even close to being home, because unless someone is there waiting for you, what is it you're going home for? So what time does your flight leave, man? How long do you have before you climb on that freedom bird and wing home? I have to wait six more hours, man, and then it's like bye-bye ...I'm gone, man, just like I been tellin' you. This bird ain't ever flying back this way.a part of a conversation that I recall from back in 1970 at the Seattle-Tacoma airport. The rythym and cadence always stuck in my mind. I believe the guy was from Long Island, and we just finished a year together overseas. Written April 20th, 2002 © on Apr 19 2002 04:47 PM PST 17 • 0 • 8
