Stage manager
By Cynicism101
And what is a good metaphor for fear? Seriously. What elegent, eloquent chairs can we force it to sit in? Let's skip the "fear is a box" and "fear is a cage" and believe, for the moment, that we're innovative. And oh, how I fear that word, innovative. So: fear is incense? Fear is road signs of the polluted highway's mind? Fear is three dead blossoms on a tree? And I fear you because you are my hidden necessity, right up there with, as exulted and ignored as, carbon chains and my own personal protein molecules. The stage mananger, that's you. The stage manager of my soap opera. Not even my fifth business. Even more demoted and inconquerable. And with no more applause meant for your ears than my fear. Ahh, and now it comes. Fear is the absence of metaphor. Fear is literal, not literature. Written March 1st, 2002 © on Mar 01 2002 12:24 AM PST 0 • 14
