My Angel & My Devil
By dianes
I have an angel on my shoulder, Protecting me each day, This angel whispers in my ear, Giving me knowledge from heaven so dear. The angel praises me, When I’m doing good, Tries to keep me from harm, Like a good angel should. When she sees trouble arising, Or when hurt is at the door, She wraps her wings around me, Protecting me from more. But I also have a devil, That rides the other shoulder, He whispers all those nasty thoughts, The ones that make me bolder. The devil doesn’t care, Where his advice does lead me, He’s only interested in the fun, Oh, how he does tease me. The devil and I have such a grand time, We laugh and get in trouble, He prods me with his pitchfork, And leaves me all befuddled. The angel and the devil, Oh, the fights they have each day, One trying to keep me on the right path, And one trying to lead me astray.
