Winter Dragon Master of Ice November 21, 2001 Copyright 2001 Doug Pretorius In a delightful distant land, called Imagine-if-you-will, where the icy wind nips your face, when you climb atop a hill. You visited here once before, not so long ago, meeting with frozen critters, and a giant squirrel you got to know. The Winter Garden surrounds you, filled to the brim with chilled delights, and off in the Winter Cave, rests the Dragon who causes fright. You promised you'd return, to slay the mighty beast, or maybe tie him up and roast him, for a Winter Dragon feast! As you left, residents of the Garden, tossed ice crystals over head, cheering and singing, "To victory!" They said. A lengthy journey passes, as you climb the Glacial Mount, you're not sure how you'll defeat him, oh, you're filled with so much doubt! The wind gets even colder, as the snow begins to fall, a great blizzard arises, you can't see anything at all. Your tiny little troop, takes refuge in a cave, but when you turn around, you realize you must be very brave. The Winter Dragon's lair, is where you find yourself to be, but thankfully, for now at least, the Dragon is nowhere to be seen. Deep into the darkness, you cautiously make your way, your heart pounds in your chest, and you think you're as crazy as a stray. A cavern opens up, and there in an icy pit, is eight or ten or twelve, tiny baby Dragonlits. Now I don't know about you, but for me it's quite a sight, with tiny baby Dragonlits, I surely couldn't fight. As for Winter Dragon, "he" must be a "she," or perhaps there's more than one, perhaps there's even two or three! "What are we to do?" you ask your little troop, "We can't fry up baby Dragonlits, for our Winter Dragon soup!" The Winter Dragon returns, putting an end to your debate, approaching from behind you, you can't run, it is too late. Light whisps of steam, rise from the Dragon's nose, wafting through the air, that is until they froze. The Winter Dragon is immense, you're surely going to die, but when she saw her baby's, she slowly began to cry. "You didn't hurt my baby's," her whisper finally rose, "Because you didn't hurt them, you are free to go." "We came here to slay you, to the Garden's folk you gave a fright, what are we to say to them, when we return late tonight?" "For sparing my baby Dragonlits, I shall grant this one request, to never set foot in the Garden, when out for food I quest." "FOOD?" Your tiny troop cries, "We're so sorry, we didn't know, perhaps the Winter Garden, food for you it could even grow." So it was that the mystery, of the Winter Dragon was solved, the Winter Garden was now as peace, and they have you to thank for it all.
