Here it sits perched upon this rock High above the world Imposing and esoteric It dreams alien dreams Far beyound for the like of us to understand Last of it's kind Majestic and terrible Forbidden to human dreams Metallic scales slide silkly Over muscle and sinew As from time to time it shifts it's graceful bulk Like a cat stretching and loling about Wings of leather soaked in linseed reach ever skyward Translucent in morning light Fragile things seemingly Serpintine tail switches here and there As if in search of times of a richer hue When magic was the blood that pumped life through The dream of dragontime Eyes reflect many lights Not all from sunrise splendour Of times long past and futures death They dream of journeys home Long the neck and elegent the head Silvery mane covers the crown of needle like horns Fearsome visage to some Like that of exotic lion of the east Loathsome to othres Spider like fasination Such a beast has no place here It disturbs us to feel this fear Kill the beast send it to hell Send for the hero this beast to fell Upon mighty war horse steaming In morning air cold and crisp Rides hero of mankind all Dazzling in polished steel and reignment bold Mighty the lance held aloft To vanquish foe this early day He rides from town Accompianied with cheers and garlands Towards beast menacing and foul Thundering charge and penant streaming Deadly lance gleaming wickedly No one can stop this dealy force Good knight seeks to glory this day Dragon bane of honour Closer and closer he rides poised Dragon breast marked he swings His lance, nine hundred pounds of death Polished armour sunlight flashes As impact seeks it's home Dragon with delicate seeming grace Moves with lightning speed Around and up To pounce upon Good knight and warhorse all Like stone all come to life The dragon hisses fury With metallic squeel and mortal agony This poor knight has fallen this day The dragon turns about To roar terrible at fleeing towns peolpe And returns once more to meld with rock To dream aloof and ignore such simple folk What shall we do they cried Against this beast that flys Send for the sorcerous she has her ways Perhaps this beast she will beguile this day Divine of spirit that breathed within And saddened by her crel intent This lady of enchantments Walked graceful and true Towards dragon of fearful beauty No cheers or garlands paved her way People hid and prayed for victory Mumuring songs of ancient lore Passed from mother to daughter From time forgotten Air hummed with nature's magic As she gathered close to dragon Reaching out to touch gently She caressed silken hide Dragon swung about to witness the threat And felt the magic in the air Knew that here was a kindred spirit Of the old earth when it was young Of dragon and sorcerous Time did stand still Held together in silent embarce No one could guess what went one between them With shuddering sigh And blinking eyes The sorcerous came awake Gently kissed the dragon And departed the feild this day Tears of joy steamed down her face As past people she walked Never would i hurt such a one she said And to the forrest she retuned What is this! The people hissed, What are we to do Lets get the bard out there,he'll talk it black and blue. Matted hair and ragged of apperance The bard did gamble forward To vanquish foe on this day He carried harp and knowlege The dragon seeing this leant forward intently Another it seemed to wonder And so the two did meet Of equal mind and interest The bard set down his harp and russled about Laying a blanket on the ground And a feast of apples Pulling out a flask he drank deeply Would you like an apple he said To behomouth towering above And tossed one up For the dragon to close about Now lets get down to it shall we For we have along way to go And so the bard did start to recite his lore With grand geature and jumping about He shouted and whispered and cried For two days and four hours This way he went Dragon of dream and difference Listened patiently thus And when the bard finally finished Exhausted beyound the pale The dragon stretched and shuddered Rose wings to span the heavens Launched it's self into the sky Never had it heard such dribble It was going to find a better place Where it could relax Damn humans the way they scurry about Not worth it's time To sit here and dream... Look at that the people said Of might and love, we have no winner But when you send in a bardic poet Then the dragon goes else where for his dinner Go figure !has anyone seen my teddy bear...?
