The Salmon Saved the Skunk

By Frogi59

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

We draw the first set Not a fish in the net Again we lay open still to come short hoping Surly in a good day The run will swim our way Yet as we draw to a close we bow to out foes There are no more fish Nothing to fill the dish Still we will try For this we won't die Then the skipper Cries out 'There's a jumper' all in one shout We lay the nets straight Hoping this fish was all fate We stand waiting for a hit No such luck, not even a bit We get the command 'Bring it in... Our day will come again' The first net was empty The second the same Then a splash and a tug maybe our salmon just came We haul the net in Pulling with all our might This fish would not give up Not without a long fight Up over the rollers Down with a loud thunk We caught our only salmon The salmon that saved the skunk Written August 15th, 2001 © on Oct 09 2001 01:22 PM PST   18 • 0 • 10
