My Hands

As I sit here wringing my hands Feeling oh so alone I look at the rings upon my fingers And wonder what went wrong First was a ring of rubies and gold My 21st birthday gift Then engagement & wedding rings My heart they once did lift A ring of 4 sapphires & diamonds One stone for each of our children No 1 mum is what it reads That was when our troubles began Then a ring of garnets and hearts Six upon the band One for each of our family Our life was going grand I look at another ring you brought Just to say, 'I love you' Then you go and turn around And it's the man I never knew As I look down at my hands And see these symbols of supposed love But all I see chains of gold Surround me like a glove For I'm married to a stranger And I don't like this man They are nothing but painful reminders But I can't take them from my hands… Written February 27th, 2002 © on Feb 27 2002 09:36 AM PST   18 • 0 • 1
