Sun, sand and sadness
By gin69er
I sit and gaze across the horizon As the sun slowly sinks from view My vision it turns inward Replaying well-worn memories of you Meeting you here one summer many years ago Walks upon the sun-drenched sand Lost in the ocean of your eyes Star-crossed lovers hand in hand Picnics filled with a feast for two Swimming in the sea as one Water lapping, my flesh on fire Warmed by more than just the sun Nights spent watching the sun as I do now Setting the sky on fire Lying together under a star filled sky Our bodies consumed with desire Waking upon the same shoreline In your arms we watch the sun rise As light slowly fills the horizon Reflecting the love found in your eyes The evening you compared stars to diamonds As you placed a ring upon my hand Surrounded by those we love As we exchanged vows upon the sand For now I stand alone at the edge of the world Here to do my last duty as your wife With one last kiss I scatter your ashes to the wind As the sun sets on the story of our life….
