Rest now, O' tired one, That has so lately borne The pain of fruitless birth, Nor let your heart be torn With vain regrets and tears. You shall not kneel and keep Lone vigil through the night By suffering child, whose sleep Is broken and whose eyes Are glazed and fixed with pain. You shall not hear your child Appeal for help in vain, Or know the anguish deep Of whispered last farewell. All this you shall not know and more--------------     God grant you peace.
