Lighting My Way

By Hanger

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

Time for new life was the commandMy wife in labor squeezing my hand As un-lady like she writhes in painScreaming out and calling my nameBreath and Pant Breath and PantThe nurses here rave and rantI have done nothing, but stand by her sideI’m tired and weary from such a wild rideI wish this third child would come out of thereHe is taking so long it just isn’t fairThen all of a sudden with one final shoveA son was delivered a gift from aboveThere I stood beaming with joyIn my arms a fine healthy boyI was the first to give him a bathI was the first to make him laughI played with him all through the dayThen at night I tucked him awayWe lay on the lounge watching TVHe fell asleep on top of meSix weeks had passed Tiny fingers graspedShaun made me happy in lifeThe very next day His life taken awayThe devil got inside my brainHe showed me anger he showed me painEven told me that God was to blameNow I’ve got my life backTry to find the right trackLife’s getting better each dayI know in my heartWhat I should from the startShaun’s in Heaven lighting my way Written October 17th, 2001 © on Oct 17 2001 11:16 AM PST   0 • 1
