Family Ties

Family Ties The maple's leafless branches fan a dark silhouette against evening's last glow - stark lines upon a backdrop of blue-grey sky. The crescent of the young Ramadan moon pierces the grey, like a cookie-cutter window punched out of crepe paper. Bats hunt their dinner of moths while birds sing their goodnight. The steaks sizzle on the coals - the bright glow a spreading sphere of light in the encroaching dark. Our meal will celebrate our family - united for this purpose alone... a solid affirmation of mutual support. Though individuals may wander far and wide in search of fortune, the whole remains intact. Nothing can sunder these bonds, these family ties of steel. And so, the repast done, we bid each other adieu and once more go our separate ways, secure in the knowledge of our mutual pact. 11-19-2001 Written November 19th, 2001 © on Nov 19 2001 02:26 AM PST, Heinz Scheuenstuhl 0 • 10
