Foreign Phrases (survivor challenge #8)
By heinzs
Foreign phrases (letter 'A') I'm afraid that I must be advocatus diaboli - ars poetica demands I take this in my hands. Having heard ad nauseum, from both my dad and mum, amor vincit omnia, they say, au contraire by my way. Can we reach, this human era, ad astra per aspera? In my mind the truth is ars longa, vita brevis. Ab initio we put on accoutrements we don, striving to be a la mode, while travelling our lonesome road. We only touch the anima mundi as it fleetingly passes, and we see, like the great show-stopper, the loss of our amour propre! The soul will drink the aqua vitae, searching for that fateful day we will fit into our own shoe... but for now, au revoir, adieu! 4/6/2002This was a self-challenge to use as many foreign words and phrases as possible in a contiguous poem. Here I have further refined it to stay with the letter "A" as a starting point, leaving the other letters of the alphabet for future excursions down this same path (grin). The translations are in the first comment box. Written April 6th, 2002 © on Apr 06 2002 11:12 AM PST, Heinz Scheuenstuhl 10 • 0
