On the Beach
By heinzs
We compete on Life's teeming beach, foraging among the tidal deposits... no different from our fellow crabs. Mostly indifferent to all but our own immediate needs, we pay scant attention to other beaches remote from our shore. But a cataclysmic event... whether man's own terror or some astronomical or geological phenomenon... has disturbed our peaceful sphere. The shock waves have set the normally complacent sea into a state of imminent unrest. On the horizon we see the pale reflection of our approaching fate. All we can do is watch and wait... there is no escape... there is no high ground. The tsunami of terror will rage across our island home leaving death and destruction in its wake. Those of us who may survive will have a desolate land to inhabit and rebuild. But rebuild we must! And we must continue so with each successive wave until our destiny is at last fulfilled and man's time on Earth is finally at its end.
