XIX Olympiad (Winter 2002) Personal best the athletes' quest - both strong and bold reaching for gold. Eleven nations compete this year with but a single athlete to carry forward their hopes - teams of one - each a flagbearer. Salt Lake setting - all are betting their own athlete can best compete. When all is said and done at the end, for whom was this gala intended? Modern gladiators on snow and ice - will they wear the victors laurels? What use is fame - this costly game? Hunger still thrives and destroys lives! The hoopla and pageantry done, has anything really been won, or have we not all really lost and all bear the pyrric cost? 2/23/2002 Written February 24th, 2002 © on Feb 23 2002 05:40 PM PST, Heinz Scheuenstuhl    0 • 10
