Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

Once in a mythical mountain kingdom was a village visited frequently only by the sun there lived one renowned for his wisdom which was surprising as he was still young His fame spread until it reached the gods the bored bunch decided to challenge in the Hall of Legends they drew lots thus it befell the Keeper of Colours to visit the gods' frippery upon this wise boy the Keeper was to test with a divine riddle: "If I were to give you a wand of magics beyond compare to create a glass and fill it with a drink from the air - what will it be? Think twice and take care: please me and you may live to ask a boon if your answer fails you'll be doomed" The wise boy said: "I know the answer you want: a glass is a vessel able to be filled by the true thirst of both god and man: a glass to fit one's hand brimmed with knowledge of all the seas and lands." The Keeper found it good: "You will live." yet the boy said "That is not the answer I give" "what I told was the answer of my mind what I give is the answer of my soul though I know it would be my doom": "I would make a glass fit to be cupped in the warm hollow of both hands of lost souls yearning to be warmed by that with which I would have it filled." For I would fill it with love" The gods doomed the wise boy as was their way he would walk this earth with his glass'd love his doom will not end untill only glass remain for the gods knew the true nature of man the boy will walk countless roads below and above still his glass would remain filled to the brimFor the Keeper of the Colours who still dwells near the mountains.
