The Love You Give Is Lonely

By ictaluri

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

You're right, you know, To be so big - You're right to be so vain. You're right to be Your jack-ass self, Because I give you rein. But where you're wrong, And where you err, I have no heart to note. The only that you are is you, And that's what I must tote. I'll never see you, lonely, I'll never know you, sad, I'll never love you, only, And for me, you can't be glad. 'Grow up', you say, and 'mend my heart', But I will not do that - The love you give is bleak, it stops me, Like a windshield, Like a splat.
