[Once upon a time,]
Once upon a time, as stories often go There was a fairy maiden, and a knight that loved her so. He asked her for her hand, and she graciously declined, for she was a young fairy Not yet knowing of her mind. She told the fairy knight, that someday would be king She would change her mind, if a unicorn, he would bring. So he started on a journey, that would take him far To distant fairy lands, he followed a shining star. He came upon a dragon He'd heard about in lore And asked about said unicorn As others had before. The dragon breathed a fire And the fairy knight did dance Until the dragon fell asleep And the knight took his chance. He slay the mighty dragon And took with him it's head To prove to the fair maiden That said dragon was now dead. That did not impress her As the knight had thought it might So after taking slumber He left again that night. He came upon a fairy land That was unlike his own And asked about a unicorn And where they might be grown? Alas, as luck would have it They knew nought, you see Having heard that unicorns Were just a fantasy. So the tired knight Started out once more Not knowing what this journey For him, would hold in store. He came upon a golden land With knights such as he, And took a little solstice For which he was in need. That is when the poor knight learned Of games played by maidens fair As he heard tales of others like he Sent out upon a dare. A dare to win the maidens hand Or that is what he thought For said maiden knew all along No existence for what he sought. So the knight decided to teach All fair maidens well Something that he had learned On this journey he befell. He found another maiden And they soon fell in love So they settled in to marriage Made in the heavens above. He took her back to his fairy land Sported her about with pride And introduced his new love To what would have been his bride. He told her he was sorry That he failed at her quest But that he had found something That more than passed the test. True love from another Overshadowed by no lies And that together they will live Forever happy, no surprise. The fairy maiden learned that day A lesson not well received If you play games in love Your heart can be made to bleed.. Written February 9th, 2002 © on Feb 09 2002 01:11 AM PST, Deborah Wolz 0 • 10
