The Consequence of Greed
By Iris
A long time ago In a very distant land Lived peace and trust And many a helping hand A place of great beauty Nature and fresh air No sign of misfortune Not a hint of dispair But nothing lasts Innocence is lost Greed controls the mind Who cares about the cost Along came possessions Forgotten was trust Purity was gone Merely ashes and dust Pretentious became the soul Closed minded and cruel One who did not conform Was peresecuted as a fool Empires were built Great fortresses of greed Never content Forever in need But there is always a cost When such mistakes are made Conseqences of gluttony Never shall fade Though slowly at first But harsh all the same Reality struck And the consequence came No fresh air remained No beauty in sight Darkness surrounded A great loss of light Was this a fair price? For such empty need To please the desire To satisfy the greed Now nothing remains Of this once peaceful land Ruin throughout Not one helpful hand Is this a warning? A prediction too true? Will this be our future? It?s all up to you Written April 1st, 2002 © on Apr 01 2002 09:25 AM PST 0 • 9
