channel cat (challenge poem)
in a 20 gallon tank waiting for love to be stripped of starved milt dying vicariously with the so called keeper til death do us part right fish settle for flakes humans run off at the love channels like communion and communication bloat with living ends when this cold pet dies a new task lived beyond my moving away to carrying the tragic art of decay from its putrid aquarium i dipped a net and payed the price of old soup living death slipped through my net and a cold conconction hit me this creature looking whole had dissolved into 20 gallons of water as i tried to lift it away a wretching job of buckets carried sloshing stuff of puke up basement stairs awaited like the sneer of a left wife and reminders of lifes messy nature Written January 11th, 2002 © on Jan 11 2002 01:13 PM PST, Frederic Jacob Gutknecht IV 18 • 0 • 10
