string of pearls
By janmew
The most precious jewels ever given to me, a small string of pearls a mere forty-three. They run through my fingers I touch them each one, feeling the memories on which they are strung. Ten radiant diamonds on a pendant are placed each sentimental and thoughtfully spaced. Clustered among them, cherished and dear, four shimmering sapphires so crisp and clear. Each of them special their histories concealed, one more outstanding, its beauty revealed. So close to my heart, they mean ev’rything. None can compare to this priceless string. As time passes by more pearls will be strung and emeralds and rubies on the pendant be hung. With our endless love we’ll complete this necklace, preserving the memories, each in it’s own place.Author's Note: The symbolism of the string of pearls in this piece is a segment of a person's life, which is ongoing, with the other gems representing events during that period of time. Although these are merely examples, a couple of possibilitites could be 1) a grandmother married 43 years with 10 children and 4 grandchildren, or 2) a 43 year old woman, married 10 years, with 4 children. Those are just examples although not the actual meaning, they may help you understand the type of symbolism intended. Written November 30th, 2001 © on Nov 30 2001 06:00 AM PST 18 • 0 • 8
