Fear
I am trapped inside a little box of fear fear I will not get in fear I will not be good enough fear he will leave fear I will be alone fear I will not make it FEAR it surrounds me encompasses my being restricts me from going further closes me in does not let me see past it. Let me out! I cannot stand this fear! Get past my doubts look further think of something else. Don't be afraid. You will be fine. Even if you don't get in you will succeed. Be a shining star, don't let the box cut off your air supply and drown out your light.I wrote this while I was at a scholarship competition. I was trying to write an essay, but all I could think of was my doubts. I wrote this poem, my first ever, on my scrap paper. Afterwards, I felt at ease and wrote my essay easily. I finally realized what so many have said about poetry being a place to let everything out. I could express in my poem what I had never let out of my brain before. Although I did not get the scholarship, I read this poem often to remind me to look towards the good things I have and not let the bad drown those out.
