Your Monster

By Katrina Armour

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

I looked at you in your full-frontal beauty Bloodshot eyes and all But only the monster stared back The monster that crawls through your veins Actually we've been talking a lot lately Your monster and me It seems you're not around much anymore Your mother says you've lost reality She's been crying a lot at night Doesn't know where you are She asked me if you had gotten into anything bad Have you gotten into anything bad? Your monster doesn't seem to care Maybe you should stay away from him He's starting to look kind of hungry Rumors have been flying around school They think you killed yourself One kid asked if you had lost your mind To tell you the truth, I don't know anymore I can't tell them you still have your mind I can't tell them you're still mine inside I can't tell them I still know you like the back of my hand I can't tell them I still know you Rumors have been flying They think you killed yourself Did you? Did you pull the trigger yet? Because it's dragged you on jagged rocks Trigger cocked between your monster's teeth And they interrogate me more and more What's become of Mr. Ken doll? I can just shrug and turn my head down I don't know Your monster just grins and puts his hand on my shoulder It's going to be another snow day in Death Valley Written August 16th, 2001 © on Aug 16 2001 03:02 PM PST, Katrina Armour   0 • 1
