'The River That Almost Ran Dry'
By lilrudyman
I fell off the success ladder, While on my way towards the top. I guess people and their jealousy, Just HAD to put me to a stop. So I gathered up my courage, And started climbing again. Then I got to the point, When I had to choose the right friend. Being laughed at and called names, Has really put me down. And then I developed second thoughts, About me wearing a crown. But the support of my family members, Helped me choose the right road. And those same people also showed me, How to live through life's cold. You see, life is like a big river. Sometimes it'll just flow right by. But for me to hop off the success ladder, Has caused my river to almost run dry. This poem is similar to my other poem "Before The Water Runs Dry". However, that poem is about encouraging someone else, this poem is about my life and how I encouraged myself. Written November 2nd, 2001 © on Nov 02 2001 10:09 AM PST 0 • 12
