Growing Through The Pain

GROWING THROUGH THE PAIN This is a poem written for an acquaintance that is going through a hard time and considering suicide. You are 17 and you want to die. I know~ I've been there. Never to feel pain again. What a wonderful and enticing thought. BUT----- Just think, Never to see another spectacular sunrise, Sharing the magnificent moment With the stillness of nature. Never to look up To see the blue softness of a summer sky. Or raise your face up To greet the gentle mist of a spring day. Never to feel the first sting of frost Signaling another winter's arrival. Or view the miracle of colour That autumn brings. Never to hear a child's cry Or feel a lover's touch. Never to grow old gracefully With friends at your side. Never to sit and rest at days end Relishing your hard won battles. Never to share Your inner beauty with the world. Because you think that all that is inside you Is worthless and dirty and unwanted. BUT-- YOU ARE WRONG. You are dead wrong. The world would be cheated. Your space cannot be filled with anyone else. You are special, You are wanted. Who can smile your smile. Whose eyes can reflect your kindness? Whose voice can echo your tenderness? Whose warmth can fill a room As yours so often does? Don't cheat us our of your uniqueness. Don't cheat yourself. We'll suffer the pain together. They have taken so much away from you already, Don't give them the final victory. Your pain and your memories Will always be with you. BUT With God's help And mine-- The pain will slowly fade away. Your life can still be filled with joy. You still have so much love to share. You see--- They haven't taken that from you. They can't touch what's inside. Only you can choose to open your heart. Only you can allow love to flow freely Within and without. It's up to you. You alone can make that choice. And I am right here by your side. Waiting, Supporting, And most importantly---- LOVING. Love yourself enough To allow others to love you It can be done. You can be happy. It is a choice that you alone can make. Happiness is the best revenge. Stand strong, Be proud, And love with all of your heart You can and will be happy. I am here for you. Just reach out your hand and you will find me there. Written March 25th, 2002 © on Mar 25 2002 04:49 AM PST   0 • 10
